Volunteer

We’ve been called to do a great work,
but we can’t do it alone.
Volunteer Cornerstone offers a variety of meaningful opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved with our school through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, and more. Whether you can commit to once a day or once a year, there are opportunities for every type of volunteer to participate.

Here are just a few ways you can partner with us:

Have lunch with a student! This is a weekly commitment of 30 minutes. Depending on the age of the student, lunch times will vary.

Help in the Art Room on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the elementary school.

Tutor a student in reading and/or math for 30 minutes to an hour. This is a weekly commitment.

Work one on one or in small groups, weekly for 45 minutes to an hour after school, helping students with homework and fostering friendships.

Work with kindergarten – 3rd-grade students during their Friday clubs. Clubs currently offered are singing, dancing, drawing, dodgeball, yoga, STEM, and bracelet making. This is a commitment on Fridays from 2:00-3:00 pm for six weeks at a time. The next season of clubs begins on April 3rd.

  • Provide a meal for Cornerstone athletes before home games.
  • Become a coach! We rely on volunteers to help coach various sports at all three schools.

Mentors are trained and matched with a Cornerstone 4th or 5th grader by our friends at the Aspire Movement. Mentors spend an average of 5 hours per month with their student, not following any specific curriculum but simply incorporating their lives together in a way that fosters discipleship and mutual growth. Group Volunteer Opportunities

Is your group looking to serve? We have a variety of group service opportunities available. If group service opportunities interests you, please fill out this form.

The Alabama Accountability Act currently establishes an annual $40 million statewide limit on the tax credits. The credits are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and may be carried forward for 3 years.

Over 85% of Cornerstone students are zoned for failing schools. Through this program, over 440 students, who would not otherwise have school choice, are given scholarships to attend Cornerstone and receive an excellent education.

For more information about becoming a volunteer, please contact our Community Engagement Manager, Amber Payne, at apayne@csalabama.org or 205-769-0035.
Please note: Tutors, mentors, & coaches must complete a Background Check in compliance with the Child Protection Act.
