A Private Christian Middle School With a Nurturing Environment

Grades 6-7

Building Confidence and Character

Middle school may be the most important years for your student as they are beginning to make decisions that will impact their future. They are growing up, and they are doing it quickly. At Cornerstone Schools of Alabama, we help our students through this season of extraordinary transition — physically, emotionally, socially, and academically. Our middle school offers small class sizes, experienced teachers who care, and Christian values at a time when it matters most.

Our IB  Middle Years Programme is designed to inspire a love of learning and help students discover their unique talents and interests. Below, you’ll find a brief overview of what we offer, including:

A Culture Built on Character

Creating a culture of respect.

Middle schoolers are learning to navigate life and build healthy relationships. We guide our students through this process by teaching them to:

Improve themselves and help others

At Cornerstone, we have opportunities for students to identify how they would like to be agents of change in their local, national, and global communities. We also teach students how to respectfully work toward conflict resolution.

Form authentic relationships

Teachers meet students where they are academically and emotionally, and our students are told they can reach out to any adult on our campus. This gives students the opportunity to build relationships with role models inside and outside the classroom.

Develop character

We talk about character daily during announcements, and each month a new character word is chosen and taught by our teachers and in chapel. Students are recognized for living out these character words, which positively influences our entire school culture.

Make wise choices

Students are encouraged to seek out adults for guidance, instead of relying only on peers. We also focus on — and praise — positive decisions.

We’re here to help.

Choosing the right school for your family is a really big deal. We are happy to answer all of your questions and guide you through the application process. Just call (205) 624-5030.

“When my son started Cornerstone in first grade, he wasn’t where he needed to be in reading.

It was a little rough, but I had faith in God and the wonderful teachers, principal, and counselors at Cornerstone! There was a big change in his grades and attitude, and today, he is a student at Cornerstone Middle School.  This was the best decision I could have made for my son!”

Striving for Academic Excellence

Academic Rigor

Our college-preparatory program — which includes the International Baccalaureate (IB)  framework — guides students through the core subject areas and builds the organizational and communication skills they need to shine in high school and college. For example, we continue to teach Spanish at the middle school. In addition, we provide a faith-based education where all students take a full year of Bible class in Grades 6 and 7.

Leadership Opportunities

Learning to lead and to follow are important skills. Our students have the chance to do both thanks to community-oriented service projects and leadership opportunities during weekly chapel services. We also foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills through classroom discussions and class activities.

Enriched Learning

Middle school is an ideal time for students to explore new interests. We offer several electives and clubs, including creative writing, art, design in missions, music, and yearbook.

Competitive Athletics

At Cornerstone, we believe athletics provide character education and teach the value of hard work. Our high school and middle school volleyball, cheer, basketball, baseball, soccer, track & field, tennis, and cross-country programs compete in the 2A classification of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA).

Ready for Future Opportunities

Setting them up for success — today and tomorrow.

We are invested in your middle schooler’s success. In fact, everything we do at Cornerstone is designed to help our students become confident, responsible individuals who are ready for high school.

SMART Goals

Every student makes SMART goals. Students review those goals every nine weeks with a teacher. This allows students to practice goal-setting and organizational skills, along with developing perseverance.

Class Schedules

Middle school students are transitioning from having one or two teachers at the elementary level to managing assignments and expectations from eight different classes. We work with them on everything from time management to study skills.

Mentorship

At Cornerstone, we believe mentorship makes a difference in the lives of our students, so we have a 1:1 mentoring program with a staff member. We also have a buddy program that matches middle school students with high school students who can offer encouragement and help with problem-solving.
