First Day of School
The purpose of this page is to keep Cornerstone families informed about back-to-school plans and procedures, and will be updated with any adjustments and announcements.
We are excited to welcome everyone back for the 2021-2022 school year! Our first day of school will be Thursday, July 29. We are committed to transitioning back to our full-day traditional learning platform.
Research shows in-person learning is best for students. It is the best environment for learning and for social-emotional development. We are confident that procedures are in place to return to school safely.
Return to campus
The safety of our students, staff, and families is a top priority. We know that the trajectory of COVID-19 is unpredictable, and we must all remain flexible in the event that public health conditions change. We remain committed to providing excellence in all areas for our students and families, and we will continue to prioritize health and safety.

Frequently asked questions
Will students be required to wear masks?
We have been in close contact with the health officials and doctors in our community. We have surveyed our faculty and staff and asked for proof of vaccination. As of today, 93 percent of our employees have been vaccinated. Because of the recent rate of infection and with medical advice we plan to open school under the following guidelines:
- 1. To protect our entire school population, we will ask unvaccinated employees to wear a mask at all times. They will also be required to have frequent COVID tests. At the current time, the vaccinated employees will also be required to wear a mask.
- 2. We will be collecting data on our students who are 12 and up in the near future. For now, all students will be required to wear a mask at all times.
We will keep a close watch on the Birmingham area. Remember, this is a starting point and we may change expectations based on recommendations from health experts. Your school principals will keep you updated.
What time do the buildings open for students to enter?
The Elementary, Middle, and High School campuses will open at 7:00 AM on Monday – Friday.
Will Cornerstone offer aftercare?
