Tell me what me your expectations were attending Cornerstone and how what you’ve experienced here has defied those expectations.

I have to admit as soon as I found out about Cornerstone, me and my friends immediately started applying for other schools. I remember praying about it and taking to God about it. I always go to Him with questions because I know he’ll give me an answer. I talked to my mom about it and she said try it out for a year. So I said ok. I’ll never forget my first day. I was late my first day at Cornerstone! Mr. McWaters wrote me up. I did not expect teachers who love God just as much as I do. I did not expect that at all.

Explain that. How have you seen your teachers love God as much as you have?

Mr. McWaters. He tells me about integrity all the time.  He reflected on God when he was giving out tests. I think it was the first test he ever gave me. He said, “Integrity is the biggest thing. You can lose everything but never lose integrity. It’s a big part of your life.”

Another name for integrity is Mr. McWaters

How are you going to carry that integrity with you outside of Cornerstone? How will it affect your future?

I know what is the right thing to do.

What else has been unexpected? Athletics?

Coach Bolton – When I first met coach Bolton she said she did not have an inside voice. (She really doesn’t.) Coach Jackson – went to Wallace State Tryout

What has been your favorite part of high school? What are you going to miss the most?

The teachers for everything they teach. Mrs. Merano asks every year, “What is truth.” That is her first assignment. It really teaches you that God is truth and He is the only answer. If I ever have questions or am in need of Him, I go straight to God. I think God speaks through a bunch of people for me. The teachers connect everything back to the bible. Mr. Swale always gives us words of wisdom. When you ask him a question, he says “What do you think God would do about that? Or, what do you think His reaction to that question or statement would be?”

He taught us that if we ever face someone trying to go against what God’s word says, He has prepared us for that too. I enjoyed that. I want to be prepared.

What has been the biggest surprise? Is there anything you have gone into with a negative attitude but through the Lord’s work or that experience, your attitude has changed?

Science Class. My first year with Mr. McWaters, I took biology and I really didn’t think I was going to like it, but I wanted to study physical therapy and thought it would go well with that. So I took it. I failed the first test, I’m not going to lie, but I started studying more and actually caring for what Mr McWaters had to teach for us. I know I’m preparing myself for the future and what I want to study. Now I’m in anatomy which is all memorization and biology prepared me for that. That’s preparing me for the future too.

Other thoughts…

I like Dr Carr giving us those bibles at the senior banquet! I really appreciated that. I didn’t even notice when I opened the bible that my name was on it. I was like oh my goodness!
