Week 1: A Message of Hope (2024)

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. Galatians 4:4-5

Happy Advent! This is a season full of joy and anticipation, as we prepare for the arrival of our Savior. Everywhere we look at Cornerstone, there’s excitement in the air—decorations going up, carols being sung, and students and teachers filled with holiday cheer. What a blessing it is to be reminded of the incredible gift of Jesus as we walk through the halls of our school every day! It’s a season of promise, as we look forward to the celebration of God’s greatest gift to us.

This sense of anticipation can take us back to our childhood, when we eagerly waited for something wonderful—like the excitement of receiving a promised gift or surprise. There’s nothing quite like the joy of that fulfilled promise! On the flip side, when a promise wasn’t kept, it left a sting of disappointment. But how different is the experience when a promise is fulfilled with joy and wonder?

As we grow older, life’s disappointments can make us more cautious with our hopes. We might tell ourselves, “Don’t get your hopes up,” or “Maybe it won’t turn out the way I expect.” But God’s Word reminds us that “hope does not disappoint” (Romans 5:5). The hope we have in God is unwavering and true, and He will always fulfill His promises.

God promised a Savior, and He kept that promise in the most beautiful way—through the birth of Jesus. Born in a humble manger, He brought joy, peace, and hope to all. This Advent season, we can celebrate knowing that our future is secure in Him, and our hope will never fail. Let’s rejoice in the sure, joyful hope we have in Jesus!

And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you. Psalm 39:7
