The Greatest Gift
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 107:1
There are so many wonderful examples of how we show love to one another. Family members who lend a helpful hand or give a hug at just the right moment. Teachers who not only help their students reach academic goals but also help cultivate servant hearts. Friends who reach out when life feels hard. At Cornerstone, we have witnessed countless ways our students share their love with classmates and the community. Just last week, our middle school students prepared 25 table top Christmas trees to be delivered to local nursing homes. They wanted to be sure that the recipients would feel a little extra love at Christmastime.
When we think of all the ways we share love with each other, be reminded of the big way God has shared love with each of us. We read in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God didn’t just love us, he “so loved us.” The emphasis on the word “so” reminds us that God gave us the greatest gift he possessed, his only begotten son.
As we finish this last week of Advent and prepare to celebrate Christmas, let’s remember that God’s greatest act of love was born in a manger. The love of God is worth sharing every day!
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:9,10
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
