Advent Devotional: Week 1 - "He is Coming!"

He is Coming!

By Jacob May, Cornerstone Bible Teacher

Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.
Malachi 3:1

It is the Advent season! The trees are going up and families are beginning to decorate for the holidays. Twinkling lights make our daily commutes a little happier. Children are counting down the days until Christmas. We are in a season of delight and wonder!

Each of us can recall eagerly waiting for the birth of a child. As a father, I remember preparing for the birth of each of my two sons. My spirit was full of excitement and wonder as I awaited their arrivals. Nothing could steal my joy as I prepared to become a father. For the church, Advent is the season of anticipating with hope and great expectation for the birth of Christ Jesus. Advent offers us an opportunity to reflect on God’s promises and prepare to celebrate the arrival of our Lord and Savior.

As we head into the busyness of the season, remember to reflect on God’s promise, “He is coming!”

And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
Luke 1:35
