Birmingham, Ala. – Cornerstone Schools of Alabama was awarded three Promising Practices in Character Education from the international organization Character.org, an organization dedicated to inspiring and empowering ethical, engaged and compassionate citizens worldwide.

“At Character.org, we are extremely proud of this year’s Promising Practices recipients. Their dedication to character development has proven over time to increase the well-being of so many individuals and their communities across the United States and beyond,” said Doug Karr, Character.org’s President & CEO. He continued, “We’re excited to begin validating Promising Practices in workplaces, sports, and higher education in addition to PK-12. The great work happening in these environments is a solid foundation for individual and community growth. ”

Each year, best practices in the area of character education are submitted from all over the world. Cornerstone was one of only six schools in Alabama to receive this recognition and the only school in the state to receive multiple awards.

“Cornerstone is the only school that has a self assessment for character for students,” said Dr. Nita Carr, President of Cornerstone Schools of Alabama. “It’s an honor to be a leader in character education.”

Cornerstone’s award winning practices were given for Biography of Wisdom, the Eagles ACT Program (middle and high school character assessment), and “Excellence Together” (elementary school character assessment). Cornerstone Schools is looking forward to continuing to develop these character programs and working alongside students to develop character both inside and outside the walls of Cornerstone.
