May 14, 2018

Cornerstone’s Class of 2018 receives a record of more than $776,034 in scholarships. This record-breaking number in scholarships accompanies the celebration of Cornerstone graduating the first class with students to have consecutively attending from the elementary school. Cornerstone opened the high school in 2014 after previously only serving students in K4 – 8th grades.

The fourth annual commencement was held on Thursday, May 17th at the Virginia Samford Theatre with 18 seniors walking across the stage, taking big steps towards their future. Many seniors graduated with hours of college credit already complete with two seniors having almost one year of college credit complete as a result of Cornerstone’s Dual-Enrollment Program.

The 2018 commencement theme was “Excellence Together” with speaker Mrs. Tiffany Daniels, SEC Associate Commissioner / SWA and Cornerstone Board Member. Other speakers included Dr. Nita Carr, Cornerstone President, Mr. Drayton Nabers, Cornerstone Board Chairman, Mr. Dedrick Agee, Principal, and Mr. Cas McWaters, Dean of Academic Affairs. Senior Remarks were given by Miss Markayla Bell.

All 18 seniors will be attending college or the military in the fall of 2018. Cornerstone graduates currently hold a 93% persistence rate in college after two years.
