Cornerstone Schools of Alabama Beta Club Member Qualifies for National Convention

Birmingham, Alabama – National Beta members from Cornerstone Schools of Alabama are celebrating their recent participation in the Alabama Senior Beta State Convention. A Cornerstone junior, Rodrecus Lewis, won first place in the Division II Poetry Contest.

National Beta State Convention allows students the opportunity to compete in various academic and STEM-based, virtual and performing arts competitions. State Convention was offered as a hybrid event. This gave students the opportunity to compete either virtually or onsite at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery, depending on their level of comfort. This victory at the state level provides Lewis the opportunity to compete at the national level. National Convention will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, KY during Summer 2023.

“Poetry is a way for me to think creatively and freely,” explained Lewis. “I was able to express my art in the way I wanted to, and I am happy to be recognized by the judges through Beta.”

Cornerstone language arts instructor and Beta Club sponsor, Meredith McLemore, said, “Beta pushes students to achieve their dreams and showcase their talent. I love watching our students grow in character; they get to serve and be leaders.”

Currently, there are 43 members in the Cornerstone Beta Club which chartered in 2014, and was recognized as a School of Merit in 2021. National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. Last year, as part of their commitment to these ideals, Cornerstone Beta Club organized a serve day where students gave back to the high school. They are planning a similar event which will take place this spring.

With more than 500,000 active members and 9,000 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Junior Beta includes grades 4-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12. Visit betaclub.org for more information.
