Let There Be Light: Jaydenn’s Story

December 3, 2020

“Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'”
John 8:12

If you ask any high school teacher at Cornerstone about Jaydenn Laster, they will describe him as joyful, dependable, and full of integrity. When we shared this with him, he laughed and shook his head and stated, “I wasn’t always like that, when I first came to Cornerstone I was selfish, deceiving, and didn’t feel like I had a purpose.”

Jaydenn had a very limited understanding of who God was. He did not know of the living God who loves and forgives. He had no idea that there was a sinless Savior who laid down His life so that his eternal life would be secure. He did not know that there was mercy for Him, and that Jesus was offering Him a better way to live. That all changed for him during his freshman year at Cornerstone when he heard the gospel of Jesus Christ for the first time.

Jayden shared, “I was in Bible class and I remember our Bible teacher talking about a merciful God who loves His children in spite of how they have sinned against Him. I was completely awestruck. I didn’t know much about God at all. This was my lightbulb moment, the time when it all clicked for me. My life was full of sin, and I was so consumed with myself. But my teacher was talking about a better way, and I knew I wanted that.”

Jaydenn gave his life to Jesus Christ his freshman year at Cornerstone, and he quickly started to notice a change. He knew the Holy Spirit was working in Him. He saw a difference in his character, and he knew it was because God had changed his heart. Jaydenn was filled with a new hope that changed the way he lived his life.

Currently, Jaydenn a junior at Cornerstone. He has shown consistent growth in his spiritual life during his time at Cornerstone and he continues to go deeper into what it means to be a faithful follower of Jesus. He remains encouraged to pursue a closer relationship with God because of his teachers. He shared,“At Cornerstone they don’t just teach us about what the Bible says, the teachers live it out. I see it modeled daily. I have a better understanding of who God is because I see my teachers model the love of Christ.”
